Here we go again...

I'm writing this post exactly one year after I started my initially daunting but ultimately incredible bike ride across the USA.
This year's adventure is less epic but will hopefully involve more paella and less fried food. I will be cycling from San Sebastián at the top of Spain to Tarifa at the bottom. 1000 miles in 14 days through the 2nd most mountainous country in Europe. The tree trunks became hill climbing machines last year but I'm not convinced they are as prepared and ready for action after an August which involved too much work and not enough pedalling. So much for the work/life balance resolution!
Much of my training has involved walking with a heavy rucksack to and from a classroom followed by a sweaty spinning class in a dark basement in Holborn with pounding music. I can now ride faster on the bike for short distances and I can boogie on a bike, but that's not exactly what is required for this trip!
Ho hum, I have 2 more weekends to squeeze in some long rides...
