We are in a region of Spain called Extremadura which in cycling terms means extremely #^*#ing hot and hilly! Today was possibly the hardest day I've ever had on a bike - 88 miles and 1549m of climbing in a furnace.
The morning started with lovely rolling hills for 45km until the coffee stop. The reservoirs and rivers looked rather empty.
After coffee, the heat and the undulations continued, even the sheep looked miserable!
There were still some lovely views of half empty reservoirs but increasingly the land became more barren and baked.
I was knackered and over heated by the time lunch appeared at 100km and it was swiftly followed by a hideous climb. This photo doesn't do it justice but my swearing at this point was atrocious.
The descent was then on a horrible road surface and I had well and truly had enough.
I eventually limped to the hotel and am currently immobile on a sofa..
